The night sky is set to erupt in an extravaganza of light, colour and fireworks as WA brings in the New Year.

Across the State, events from Esperance to Karratha are being held to see out 2023 with a bang.

The City of Perth will lead the way with its family-friendly fireworks and lights show which is set to kick off at 8pm at Elizabeth Quay, with Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas promising there will be “no shortage of entertainment” across the city.

“Each year, our family-friendly New Year’s Eve event draws thousands of people from all over Perth into the City, and this year, thanks to Roy Hill, Elizabeth Quay is the place to be, with our celebrations set to be bigger and better than ever,” he said.

“A variety of food trucks will also be cranking with loads of tasty options for everyone to enjoy on top of our world-class restaurants and bars.

“For those keen to party on, the Fun Fair continues through until midnight. And the skies above Northbridge will light up with additional fireworks to ring in the new year when the clock strikes twelve.”

Hancock Prospecting Operations chief executive Gerhard Veldsman said New Year’s Eve was a time to celebrate and look forward to the exciting possibilities of the year ahead. “There’s no better place to be than our great city centre which will be buzzing with family-friendly entertainment, as we light up the sky with a spectacular fireworks display to ring in 2024,” Mr Veldsman said.

Transperth will also offer additional free services to get revellers into the city and then home again in the New Year.

On New Year’s Eve, trains and buses will operate on a Sunday timetable with extra services on selected routes before and after midnight

After midnight, trains on all lines will leave Perth about every 15 minutes with reduced frequency after 2.45am.

“Thankfully it’s easy to have an enjoyable night and get home responsibly with Transperth, with more trains on the rail and more buses on the road either side of midnight to help you get around,” Transperth spokesman David Hynes said.

“Even better, all train services post-midnight will be free, making Transperth the logical option for revellers this New Year.”
