University lecturer Adam Brown allegedly killed wife

A university lecturer is accused of killing his wife inside their suburban Melbourne home.

Adam Brown, 40, faced the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday afternoon charged with his wife’s murder.

The 35-year-old woman died at the Patrick Ave property in Croydon North on Saturday night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of an assault at the address about 10.15pm.

During a brief hearing on Monday afternoon, Mr Brown’s lawyer Nick Tehan told the court that it was his client’s first time in custody.

The police also requested the victim’s name be redacted from charge sheets released to the media.

“Family in China have been notified (of her death); however, there’s also family in Sydney,” Detective Senior Sergeant David Martin-Alcaide told the court.

“It’s more for the privacy of the family at this stage,” he said.

Online records show Mr Brown is a lecturer at Deakin University in communications and his teaching interests include social media, digital project management and “gamification”.

He is due to return to court in September.
