A bushfire in Casuarina has been downgraded to an advice level after it sparked near the prison.

The blaze was downgraded just before 5.30pm on Wednesday afternoon for people in Goodman Drive, Casuarina Road, Cumming Road, Forrest Grove, Nicolas Drive, and Lugg Place in Casuarina and Oldbury.

There is no threat to lives and homes, however, residents have been told to keep up to date in case conditions change.

The fire started at 3.15pm near the intersection of Orton Road and Landgren Road and was burning towards Casuarina Prison earlier in the afternoon.

Firefighters are still on scene patrolling the area and mopping up.
