Kalbarri: RSPCA investigates reports two pelicans were decapitated, discovered on foreshore

The RSPCA is investigating reports two pelicans were decapitated in Kalbarri. The West Australian has obtained confronting images of one of the birds, which was reportedly found on the town’s foreshore by a local on Thursday morning. A local resident, who initially expressed her concern to Facebook, said the find had left her community “distraught”. “It could’ve been an angry fisherman, a pelican swallowed his hook, and he wanted the hook back,” she told The West. “I don’t want to say it was a fisherman — we don’t honestly have a clue what happened.” “The poor bloody pelican, they are harmless, they honestly wouldn’t hurt a fly . . . this is just heartless cruelty.” It is understood a shire ranger reported the incident to the RSPCA after the birds were discovered.
