A 72-year-old woman has died and eight other people, including two children and a teenager, remain in hospital following a devastating two-vehicle collision in the Shire of Dardanup on Saturday afternoon.

At 1.55pm a silver Ford Kuga station sedan and a grey Holden Colorado utility collided on Pile Road, near the Ferguson Road intersection.

The force of the impact triggered a massive response from emergency services.

The elderly driver of the Ford Kuga was treated at the scene before being rushed to Bunbury Regional Hospital where sadly she later died.

Five other passengers from the Ford Kuga and three people from the Holden Colorado were also conveyed to nearby hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section are now appealing for public assistance to piece together the moments leading up to the tragedy.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the incident online.
