AFL Watch: First-year Eagle Jobe Shanahan stands out as West Coast suffer 52-point loss to Peel Thunder

Despite fielding 16 AFL-listed players, West Coast were no match for Peel Thunder in a 52-point loss in Mandurah on Saturday. Here’s how they fared. Harry Barnett: Spent the entirety of the day as a forward while contesting some inside-50 stoppages in the ruck. Kicked one goal from a blocking free kick in the third term but was hardly sighted otherwise. Rhett Bazzo: Among his side’s best in a 17-disposal, eight-mark effort. Would have appreciated some more pressure being applied up the ground. Malakai Champion: Showed plenty of endeavour by laying a game-high 11 tackles but found his opportunities to impact the game offensively limited. Campbell Chesser: Ran hard up and down the wing as he continues to build some continuity in his body. Hamish Davis: Kicked a classy goal in the third term but did not have much of a say on proceedings otherwise. Lucca Grego: Tried to give some drive out of defence and largely used the ball well. Tom Gross: Played much of the game in his preferred midfield role but recorded only 10 disposals. Kicked a nice goal moments before the half-time siren. Callum Jamieson: Was caught out on a few occasions opposed to Peel’s Corey Tregenza, who kicked four goals from six scoring shots. Harvey Johnston: Had no real influence playing a disciplined team-first role on the wing but was far from his side’s worst. Coen Livingstone: Did some nice things when given the chance to go into the ruck. Noah Long: Struggled to combat the Thunder’s more physically-mature on-ballers in a midfield role. Jacob Newton: Applied plenty of defensive pressure and overcame a swirling breeze to slot a set shot in the third term. Jack Petruccelle: Found the ball 17 times but did not use it well in tricky conditions. Loch Rawlinson: Converted a pair of clever snaps to be his side’s only multiple goal-kicker. Defensive effort can never be questioned. Archer Reid: Spent much of the game in the ruck, where he showed some good signs but was comfortably beaten by Liam Reidy. Missed his only set shot on goal in what has been an unfortunate theme of his season. Jobe Shanahan: The margin would have been much worse if not for his efforts in defence. Most of his eight marks directly intercepted Peel’s attacking entries and nearly all of his 20 disposals found a target.
