How Carlton use whatever momentum they gained from their Gabba near-miss will be telling as Michael Voss refuses to "coach for his job" at the Blues.
The visitors came from 49 points down to trail by just 10 late in the final term on Friday against the Brisbane Lions.
The two-time defending premiers (6-3) did enough to hang on for a 14.16 (100) to 13.11 (89) win and consign the Blues (1-8) to a seventh-straight loss.
Carlton had let half-time leads slip in six of eight games this season but trailed by 38 at the main break on Friday before rallying.
Patrick Cripps, Sam Walsh and Jagga Smith turned the tables on Brisbane's dominant midfield before forwards Harry McKay, Mitch McGovern and Will Hayward (all three goals) were suddenly potent.
"We've put ourselves in positions in most games to win, but I'm sort of also sick of saying that," Voss said.
He said Carlton's effort against the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium next Saturday would be telling.
"Guys get some genuine confidence off what they've been able to do, but the next week's a different challenge," he said.
"We've got to use that momentum.
"It shows you that we have the capacity in there to be able to finish off games really strongly.
"There's a model in there that definitely works and those sorts of results do say so, but it also says that we're not doing it for long enough."
Voss is battling to stay in the job but dismissed suggestions that the manner of the result had helped his cause.
"People will make it about your job, but the reality is, I'll make it about something else," he said, explaining his goal was to create a winning environment.
"We've got to continue to build that real positive energy around the place, because there is a spirit within this group that keeps coming and but we've also got to learn how to win and how to execute more often."
