A pair of Claremont draft prospects stood tall at either end of the ground as last year’s colts grand finalists opened their 2022 account with a thrilling 15-point win over Subiaco at Revo Fitness Stadium.

Beanpole 200cm forward-ruck Luke Brown booted a game-high 3.2 and took seven marks to be the Tigers’ main focal point in attack, while key defender Hugh Davies continued his bright start to the season in the 11.10 (76) to 9.7 (61) result.

Davies finished with 20 possessions and six marks and showed great composure late with a couple of important defensive efforts when the Lions were coming.

Goal-kicking midfielder Fletcher Netherway was another important contributor for the Tigers, booting two goals from 23 touches including the sealer with six minutes left, with Rhori Williams-Jolley also kicking a couple of majors in an eye-catching debut.

The win may have come at a cost with highly-rated 2023 key-position talent Daniel Curtin going down with a dislocated knee cap for the third time in his short career.

For Subiaco, returning on-baller Jack Gouge racked up 28 possessions and a final-quarter goal which provided a spark for his team, while captain Jacob Evitt (22 and a goal) was also influential.

Imposing forward Koltyn Tholstrup, an exciting 2023 prospect, and ex-East Fremantle goalsneak Richard Bartlett kicked two goals apiece, with Bartlett’s coming in quick succession late in the opening term.

All of the other round-two colts matches are on Sunday with Peel Thunder hosting West Perth at Lane Group Stadium and reigning premiers Swan Districts facing off against East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval, both at 9.10am.

Perth take on East Perth at Mineral Resources Park from 11.30am to complete the round.
