The Kimberley is wild and raw and we have just a few places left on our charter-flight weekend there in May 2026.

In my (considerable) experience in the Kimberley, the further east we travel, the more we touch the red essence of it. And that’s just what we are going to do (without driving 6400km there and back).

We have a charter plane to fly us to our Kimberley Wild Weekend — direct, from a private air terminal. We have two great places to stay, at Emma Gorge and Lake Argyle. And we have tours giving insight into this remote and remarkable part of WA.

And we have just 18 places left, in nine shared rooms. (Any solo travellers interested in joining us will need a travel partner to share with, or call 1300 854 897 as there may be an opportunity to share.)

I will be alongside every step of the way, adding experiences from 40 years of travelling in the East Kimberley. I’ve spent a lot of time there, over many years, and set two novels there. It is an important place for me.

Our Kimberley Wild Weekend will be easy, but it will be dramatic.

It will be a huge trip, in a short trip.

HOW, WHEN, HOW MUCH

+ We are planning the trip for Friday May 8 to Sunday May 10, 2026.

+ We will fly to Kununurra on a private charter plane, then head straight out to the Cockburn Range to stay at Emma Gorge Resort. There will be a dinner and live local music, and a night in its tented cabins.

+ The next morning there’s a guided walk up Emma Gorge and a dip in the pool at the end, which is by a droplet waterfall. Lunch will be “beef and barramundi” before we head off to the other side of Kununurra — to Lake Argyle. This drive alone will be an adventure in the Kimberley.

+ At the Lake Argyle Resort there will be dinner in a dramatic venue, before a night in a studio cabin.

+ The next morning, we’ll be on the upper Ord River itself — on a boat adventure from the Ord Dam wall back to Kununurra. That gives us another part to the remarkable East Kimberley story.

+ Back in Kununurra, we’ll head back to the airport for our charter flight back to Perth.

This extraordinary Kimberley Wild Weekend will be about $4500 per person. At this stage we’re asking for expressions of interest, as we need some idea of this before we can lock in our logistics.

Places are now very limited. Please email holidays@holidaysofaustralia.com.au or call 1300 854 897.

This phone number will connect you direct to our trusted friends at Holidays of Australia (a family-owned and run company), which has put together the charter and package. We have partnered with them on our many Uluru trips, with direct charter flights from Perth.

(For any readers who’ve come on those, I hope Kimberley Wild Weekend is the next adventure.)
