Australia Post is on the hunt for truck drivers, posties and forklift operators among 5000 vacant jobs it needs to fill to help with a surge in parcel deliveries in the lead up to Christmas.

The national delivery service has 1600 permanent and contract jobs up for grabs as well as 3300 Christmas casual roles.

Like last year, the online shopping boom due to the Covid-19 pandemic has led to a surge in demand for parcel delivery with Australia Post handling almost 2 million packages per day.

“We’re on the lookout for people to join us and help deliver and process record volumes across the country,” she said.

“We’re proud of the outstanding efforts of our people working hard across the country who keeping delivering and supporting communities through challenging circumstances, and we‘re so pleased to be able to welcome more into this fantastic Australia Post team.”

Australians are also eagerly awaiting the deadline to send domestic parcels around the country in time for Christmas.

That is not yet available, but Australia Post does have deadlines to send packages overseas and many are around late November.

In order to have a standard parcel delivered to the United Kingdom in time for December 25, Australians would need to send it before November 26.

Standard parcels to the United States need to be sent before November 30.
