Tulle and teddy the perfect combination for crop checking at this Mingenew farm

Wren Ward, 3, is living proof a tulle fairy skirt really can be the perfect outfit for crop checking. The farm girl was joined by her favourite cuddly toy for the important job at her uncle’s Mingenew farm recently. Wren’s parents Chloe and Sam Ward farm just next door, and said crops had started to take off after a slow start to the year. A bit of rain and a bit of sunshine has propelled crops forward after little rain fell earlier in the year. “We sat and waited and watched, and we made decisions based on if the rain was or wasn’t falling,” Chloe said. “That’s the only way to handle farming in general, especially when the season’s so hit and miss. “But things are looking good now after a bit of warm sunshine... hopefully we are set for a nice middle and end to the season.” It feels like a lifetime ago that the world was “falling in” on her and her husband, when cyclone Seroja ripped through their farm and decimated their machinery shed and seeding equipment in April 2021. This year, farmers in Mingenew are gearing up for the 40th celebration of the McIntosh and Son Mingenew Midwest Expo. The two-day farming spectacular will be held on August 9 and 10.
