Australian Pork Limited has appointed a new boss, handing the reins to red meat figurehead Margo Andrae.

Ms Andrae stepped away from her position as Cattle Council of Australia chief executive today to be unveiled as Australian Pork’s incoming head honcho.

Ms Andrae is set to start the role in August, replacing outgoing chief executive Andrew Spencer, and said she was eager promote the country’s pig farmers and “put more pork on more forks”.

“Australia has a fantastic clean, green product,” she said.

“Our pork industry should be congratulated for its world leading animal welfare practices, meticulous biosecurity and particularly for its transparency.

Ms Andrae joined the Cattle Council in March 2017 and was appointed interim chief executive four months later.

Following the Cattle Council’s annual general meeting in November 2017, Ms Andrae was confirmed in the position on a permanent basis — making her the group’s first female boss.

Cattle Council president Tony Hegarty thanked Ms Andrae for her service.
