Do you know a star of the wool industry? Nominations open for this year’s Australian Wool Industry Medal

Nominations are open for the Australian Wool Industry Medal to recognise those who have made an exceptional contribution to the national industry. Run by Victorian-based Wool Industries Australia, formerly the Federation of Australian Wool Organisations, the accolade was established in 2017 and to date has handed out 29 medals nationally. Nomination categories include producing, shearing, wool classing, testing, brokering, market reporting and analysis, administration or regulation service, exporting, processing, education, science, promotion and fashion. Three recipients were chosen to receive the 2021 Australian Wool Industry Medal. These included Michael Manion Wool Industry Foundation chairman Ken Stock, a wool exporter for more than 50 years. Also awarded was former Australian Wool Testing Authority product testing divisional manager John Lewis, who was also a former Macquarie Textiles managing director. From WA, former Dyson Jones managing director Ken Dyson was awarded for his involvement with the Private Treaty Wool Merchants and representing WA woolgrowers in all the Australian Wool Corporation’s reserve price years. Recipients are not chosen state by state but on their contribution to the wool industry. The 2022 presentations will take place during Wool Week’s industry dinner on August 25 at the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria in Melbourne. Nominations for the 2022 Australian Wool Industry Medal are open and will remain open until COB May 2. Further information on events can be found at fawo.org.au.
