The long-awaited memoir from Australia’s most beloved music icon John Farnham will be released in November.

The Voice Inside is a triumphant return for the musician who recently announced he was cancer-free a year after undergoing a 12-hour surgery to remove a tumour in his mouth.

Farnham said he had asked been “many times” to sit down and tell his story and finally felt it was the “right time”.

“It is a very strange feeling looking back on my life, on the good and the bad, and now that I have started, it is all rushing back,” he said.

The book was written in partnership with Poppy Stockwell, the award-winning writer and director of the critically acclaimed 2023 biopic Finding the Voice.

“Working with John on his memoir has been like sitting down with an old friend, who also happens to be an absolute legend, to share stories that are both deeply personal and wildly entertaining,” she said. “His resilience and sense of humour shine through every recollection, making this project a genuine reflection of the man behind the music.

“It’s been a joy to help bring his tales to life, and I can’t wait for readers to get an unfettered glimpse of the man whose music is the soundtrack to so many of our lives.”

Farnham rose to pop stardom in the 1960s and still holds the record for the highest-selling Australian album ever with his 1986 release of Whispering Jack.

He has charted the highs and lows of the music industry during a six-decade touring career, including financial struggles and being named Australian of the Year in 1987.

The Voice Inside by John Farnham with Poppy Stockwell will be published in all formats in November 2024.
