A police officer has been seriously injured after they were allegedly dragged along a road while attempting to stop a stolen vehicle. Police allege two teenage boys, both aged 16, entered a Waterford home, in Perth’s south, and stole a wallet and keys to a Toyota Prado while the occupants were home about 9pm on Friday. An hour later police spotted the stolen Prado stopped at an intersection on the Promenade and Main St at Ellenbrook, in Perth’s east. A police spokesman said officers pulled up next to the Prado with its emergency lights flashing and an officer opened the driver’s side door and told the driver to “exit the vehicle.” “The driver allegedly accelerated heavily, dragging the officer along the road until the vehicle stopped and the officer fell onto the ground,” a spokesman said. Paramedics attended the scene and provided first aid to the officer before they were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Police have charged a 16-year old boy from Embleton with aggravated home burglary, stealing a motor vehicle, assault a public officer, no authority to drive, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop, and possession of an edged weapon. Another 16-year old boy from Thornlie has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle, aggravated home burglary and assaulting a public officer. Both are due to appear before the Perth Children’s Court on Saturday.
