Scotty’s Shot: Emu Point head pecking order in Lower Great Southern Bowling League after easy round six win

Passionate Albany bowler Tim Scott is writing a fortnightly column for The Extra, keeping our readers up to date with the local bowls scene. Ladder leaders Emu Point have established themselves as pennant favourites after a massive round six win over Middleton Beach Green in division one of the men’s Lower Great Southern Bowling League. They walloped their opposition 6 (85) to 0 (38). Middleton Beach Gold also produced a dominant performance, thrashing Denmark 5 (85) to 1 (34) as Albany Gold moved to second after a 5 (69) to 1 (42) win over Middleton Beach Black. Mt Barker Golf Red and Albany Green were allocated three points each after their fixture was washed out. In the men’s second division, wet weather meant only two games were played. Middleton Beach White were impressive away from home to defeat Emu Point White 5 (76) to 1 (48). However, Albany Brown shot to the top of the ladder after they were too good at home over Emu Point Purple 6 (56) to 0 (49). Walpole and Mt Barker shared the points, as did Mt Barker Golf White and Albany Grey. All the men’s division three matches were rain-affected with the teams sharing the points. One fixture was completed in division one of the ladies’ pennants. Albany Green easily defeated Middleton Beach Red 4 (37) to 0 (13) in the only division two contest. Geoff Bain recently reached the 400th pennant game milestone for the Albany Bowling Club during round six. Bain, a life member, has won numerous club titles including two club singles, four pairs, two triples and four championship fours. He has also represented the Lower Great Southern Bowling League round-robin side on numerous occasions. Bain has also won an amazing 12 pennant titles, as well as a league triples and a league fours title. Club Championship Results Albany Ladies Championship Triples: Winners: Sheryl Driscoll, Margaret Happe and Necia Jones. Runners-up: Marie Robinson, Yvonne Thompkins and Barbara Pearce. Albany Men’s Championship Triples: Winners: Craig Nitchcock, Darryl Stephens and James Milliken. Runners-up; Richard Plant, Wayne Jones and Peter Hughes. Middleton Beach Men’s Championship Pairs: Winners: Geoff Hornibrook and Fred Holt. Runners-up: Alan Haynes and Don Lange.
