Shaken up Middleton Road residents uninjured after waking up to car crashing through front bedroom at night

Tenants of a house on Middleton Road said they are both uninjured but shaken after a car rammed through the front of their house late on Sunday night, the shocking end to a car theft incident. Albany police say the incident began between 9pm and 11pm on Sunday night when unknown offenders stole a white Holden Commodore wagon from an address on Seymour Street in Mira Mar. Dylan Moir and Erin Eaton, tenants of the home on Middleton Road, were both asleep inside when the Holden left Middleton Road, rolled down the embankment and crashed through the front wall of the house about 11.45pm. Mr Moir, who was asleep in his bedroom at the front of the house, described the shock of the moment the car crashed through the wall, spraying bricks and debris across his bed. “It actually wasn’t as loud as I expected, it sounded further away than what it was, I was very shocked to see it was literally in the front bedroom, I think it was more just the light that got me,” he said. “The sound just woke me up, but then it was just the the light of the headlights were just shining in, and then I realised that was the car coming in through the wall. “It was just, yeah, so scary.” The car smashed a hole from floor to ceiling in the front wall of the house, landing on top of one parked car and severely damaging a second as it came down the embankment. “I could see the window frame fall in, and the bricks were falling in onto my bed and around my bed, so I just got up as quick as I could and I was there going, ‘what the hell, what do I do?’,” Mr Moir said. “I couldn’t get out of my room at first, my door was jammed with all the rubble and stuff that was in the way. “We finally got out, and we saw the damage and how totalled the cars were, and then we saw the other car, the one that had crashed in and that was upside down in the driveway as well, and we were kind of just hoping that there wasn’t anybody in there. “We just didn’t really know what to do.” Police say the car’s occupants fled the scene before officers arrived, with several people spotted running from the scene on foot shortly after the crash. “Luckily, we have really good neighbours, and everybody came out and gave us a bit of a hug and offered us tea, and that was really nice,” Mr Moir said “Our other neighbour was hosing down the car that was upside down so it didn’t catch on fire completely, because there were some flames starting to come out.” Ms Eaton’s room is further back in the house and sustained cracking to the walls, but miraculously neither she nor Mr Moir sustained any injuries in the ordeal. Mr Moir said an accident of this kind had crossed his mind previously due to the location of their house just down a sharp embankment from the busy Middleton Road. “It was just one of those things where I thought, ‘that could totally happen, a car could come flying through and take us out’, but I never thought it would happen in a million years,” he said.
