A new commemorative plaque has been installed at Axford Park in Mt Hawthorn, recognising dozens of servicemen whose contributions had previously gone unrecorded.

Rather than adding a secondary plaque, the City of Vincent has replaced the original, ensuring the newly identified servicemen are honoured with equal prominence and dignity.

The updated plaque now features 223 names which will include 39 servicemen recently uncovered through community-led historical research.

The original memorial was first installed in February 2015. But ten years on Perth historian David Murray contacted the City with detailed findings identifying several local men who had not been included.

Vincent Mayor Alison Xamon said contribution’s, such as Mr Murray’s, is the reason why the city’s history is richer.

“Mr Murray’s research has played an important role in ensuring these soldiers are recognised in our local story,” said Ms Xamon.

Alison Xamon will formally acknowledge the updated plaque and the additional names during the City’s Anzac Day march and service on ANZAC Day.
