Multiple cars have been damaged after fire tore through a Welshpool business on Sunday morning, sending thick smoke across Perth’s inner eastern suburbs.

Emergency services were called to the blaze just after 5.30am near the intersection of Colin Jamieson Drive and Pilbara Street in Welshpool’s industrial area.

A total of 17 firefighting appliances raced to the scene, quickly bringing the blaze under control by 6am but not before a significant number of vehicles were damaged.

Authorities issued an all clear just after 7am, but Emergency WA had warned there is still a significant amount of smoke in the area.

Police have blocked off the entry to Colin Jamieson Drive while forensic officers investigate the scene.

The intersection has been left riddled with black ash from the fire.

More to come.
