Geraldton Softball Association round 12: Martians and Rams on double duty as competition hits home stretch

Geraldton softball is shaping up for another busy and telling weekend, with round 12 promising double-headers, ladder implications and plenty of tired arms by the final out. In men’s division one competition, Suiside head into the round confident after banking two strong wins in their double-header last week. The Bulldogs return on Saturday night to take on Martians, who face a demanding round with another double-header on the schedule. Martians also meet Rams on Saturday, while Rams begin their weekend earlier with a clash against Blaze. Suiside continue to set the benchmark across the competition, built around disciplined batting and the reliable pitching combination of Liam McHarry and Cooper Jefferies. The Bulldogs have depth across the diamond and show no signs of easing off, even as the season edges toward its pointy end. Behind them, the battle for second place remains tight. Blaze and Rams have both shown they belong in the conversation, and this round may well give one side a crucial edge in the race to lock in a strong finals position. The women’s division one games are all scheduled for Saturday and promise plenty of intrigue. Rams take on Pi’s Panthers in a match-up that could come down to which pitcher settles first. Stevie Usher for Rams and Natalie Wisewould for Pi’s have both been in solid form, and if runs are at a premium, defence and patience at the plate will matter just as much as power. Marlins continue to look like the team everyone is chasing, with Taryn Purcell leading the way both with the bat and from the mound. They take on Suiside, who will be desperate for a confidence-boosting win as the season enters its closing stretch. For Suiside, this is the kind of game that can either steady the ship or leave a team chasing momentum a little too late. Men’s division two features a packed program. Martians open the round on Friday against Rams White, with both sides needing a win to stay in touch with the pack. On Saturday, Suiside meet Rams Blue, Blaze take on Panthers, and Gunduwa face Marlins later in the day. In women’s division two, all games are again played on Saturday. Rams Blue face Suiside, with Suiside looking to carry momentum forward after their emphatic 20–0 win last round. Martians take on Rams White, while Gunduwa meet Marlins later in the day. Blaze and Pi’s Panthers round out the day in what could be a lively contest to close proceedings.
