South West AFL Watch: Busselton’s Jye Amiss continues solid spell of form with three-goal western deby

Busselton product Jye Amiss continued a solid spell of recent form with a three-goal performance in Fremantle’s 49-point win over West Coast in the western derby at Optus Stadium on Saturday. Against an Eagles side featuring Dunsborough’s Reuben Ginbey — who he spent time opposed to and engaged in a wrestle with in the third term — Harvey’s Brady Hough and Binningup’s Clay Hall, Amiss was among the Dockers’ best performers as they won their ninth game from their last 10. Amiss lined up as high up the ground as the wing on occasions and getting him into the game appeared to be a key focus for his teammates. His performance against the Eagles came on the back of two-goal efforts in the Dockers’ victories over Hawthorn and ladder-leaders Collingwood, marking a response to a call from coach Justin Longmuir earlier this month that he “probably (expected) a little bit more from Jye” after he had kicked only one goal in his preceding four games. Having slotted 81 majors across his first 47 games in a sparkling start to life at AFL level, Amiss has not been as prolific in 2025, where he has managed 25 goals through 19 appearances as he finds his place amid the continued emergence of fellow key forwards Josh Treacy and Pat Voss. Earlier this month, Treacy heaped praise on Amiss, saying his efforts were not going unnoticed within the club. “I’ve been really proud of him because he does a lot of selfless work for our team and a lot of work off the ball for me, especially,” Treacy told SEN. Fremantle, who sit seventh on the ladder, will be looking to take another step towards securing their finals place on Sunday in their clash with Carlton at Optus Stadium, with last-placed West Coast heading to Marvel Stadium to take on Melbourne on Saturday.
