A major Perth freeway was partially shut after a sheep fell from a truck, causing a fiery crash.

Firefighters and police were alerted to reports of a crash on Wednesday afternoon on Kwinana Freeway southbound near the Anketell Road exit.

The collision happened after a sheep escaped from a northbound truck and got into the southbound lanes.

“About 1.10pm, a sheep has escaped from a large truck on the Kwinana Freeway near Anketell Road and as a result caused an accident between two vehicles,” a police spokeswoman said.

“One of the vehicles caught alight as a result.”

No one was injured as a result of the crash and blaze however, a police spokeswoman confirmed the sheep had died.

The freeway was closed heading south between Rowley Road and Aketell Road before later reopening.

Vision taken from commuters shows the car up in flames.

Trains were stopped as smoke billowed across the freeway before being allowed to operate at a reduced speed.

Urgent roadworks were underway late on Wednesday as a result of the fire.

People are urged to allow for extra travel time in the area as roads remain congested.
