VideoAFL: Mark Robinson has labeled the West Coast Eagles 'a tease' after a dour showing against the Western Bulldogs.

Dual Adelaide premiership star Tyson Edwards has spoken for the first time about his disappointment when the Crows snubbed his son Luke in the 2020 AFL Draft.

Luke Edwards was snapped up by the Eagles as pick 52 in last year’s draft, after Adelaide elected not to select the youngster as a father-son.

Edwards has already played three games in his debut season for West Coast and is now “loving his time” at the Eagles.

Speaking on SEN SA, Edwards Snr revealed he had hoped his son would follow in his footsteps at West Lakes, but it wasn’t to be.

“We were surprised the Crows decided not to select him,” Edwards said.

“At the end of the day, it didn’t matter what he wanted to do. If they didn’t want to go with him, then he couldn’t get there.

“I would have loved him to start his journey there like I had the opportunity to do.

“It was disappointing.”

Edwards said he always believed his son had the ability to make it in the AFL, even if Crows recruiters turned their back on him.

“I probably never had any concerns that he wouldn’t be ok at that (AFL) level. He’s always gone really well playing at the next level,” he said.

“I thought he’d be fine.”

Despite his stellar Adelaide career, nowadays Edwards said his home was filled with Eagles merchandise in support of his son.

“I’m rapt that he’s got his opportunity,” Edwards said.

“They’ve been super for Luke. He’s absolutely loving his time over there.

“We couldn’t be happier with how they are treating him and keeping us updated with how he’s going.

“Rapt for him that’s he’s got a couple of games; he’s loving that, that’s for sure.”

Luke Edwards was part of the extended Eagles squad that departed WA for Victoria on Tuesday.

The Eagles elected to take the majority of their squad given the growing uncertainty over the State’s COVID laws.
