After scoring his first Test ton, Joe Root went on to torment the Aussies along with Jofra Archer in a swashbuckling last-wicket stand to give England the honours on day one.

But it didn’t last long on day two and the tourists put in one of their worst performances in the field and with the ball

Recap all the action from the Gabba below.

Goodnight!

That’s all for day two.

We will be back for day two tomorrow!

“Nice position”

Marnus Labuschagne is a fairly happy man at stumps.

“Crazy day of cricket,” he told Channel 7.

“Unfortunately, we probably just let them in a little in that nice session but Alex Carey batting well.

“We’re in a nice position.”

He also said he enjoyed batting with Jake Weatherald.

“It was nice,” he said.

“It’s the first time I’ve batted with (Jake Weatherald) and it was nice.

“It was good to have that left-right combination.”

Labuschagne also added he doesn’t think his catch this morning was his best!

Stumps

England are now 44 runs behind after a horrid day in the field.

Australia are 6-378 with Carey unbeaten on 46.

Neser will remain in over night as well.

England had one good over in nearly two sessions to keep their heart beat alive but they day belonged to Australia.

Survival time

There is about five minutes to go and the Aussies will look to survive.

Root’s turn

Carey has nicked one between keeper and first slip and Root has dropped one.

The keeper didn’t move and Root looked stuck.

The next ball was a square drive for four!

AUS 6-360

Crowd

The attendance for the second day in Brisbane is 36,573.

Dropped again, again!

Carse is having a day!

Neser cut one straight to him at cover and the all-rounder shelled it.

This England team look much the same as the last couple that have come here.

Carse is even now leaving the field with a finger concern.

AUS 6-348

Archer back

Stokes bowled himself into the ground with full-body cramps and has now turned back to Archer and Atkinson.

They are mixing up the length a little better but still going short at Neser.

AUS 6-346

Ingo goes

Josh Inglis has been dismissed by Stokes.

The skipper was angry to say the least as Duckett dropped another catch but two balls later he speared one into the WA keeper’s middle stump for 23.

However, Australia now lead with half an hour to play tonight.

AUS 6-335
