Fremantle Dockers star Hayden Young concedes there’s ‘no little fix’ for his injury woes after latest setback

Fremantle star Hayden Young has conceded there is nothing he can do before the end of the season to “bulletproof” his body as he deals with another soft tissue injury. Young was subbed out in the first quarter of the Dockers’ win over Carlton at Optus Stadium on Sunday because of a groin strain in what was only his third game back from a serious hamstring injury that required surgery. The 24-year-old has been restricted to only seven games this year and said the latest injury setback wasn’t “too bad” as he looks to return before a potential finals campaign for the Dockers, who sit fifth on the ladder heading into their game against Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night. “I’ve never done a sort of groin, adductor before, so I didn’t know quite what it was or if it was just something minor,” Young told 96FM. “I wasn’t able to get going which was a little bit frustrating but I knew it wasn’t too bad because I could jog off the field but we didn’t want to risk it any further, so Ras (Neil Erasmus) was ready to go as the sub and he came on and had a great impact. “Scans have shown there’s a little bit of damage there but not too much so I’ve been able to get moving the last few days and hopefully I can get back pretty soon.” Young said because of his lack of pre-season he knew he was at a higher risk of injury and it was nothing he could solve before the end of the season. “It’s hard to draw correlations. Everything, big picture is it’s all linked,” he said when asked if the groin injury was related to his hamstring injuries. “The reality is when you don’t have a full pre-season, and you don’t have continuity in your body you’re at a higher risk of injury and I’m well aware of that. “And that’s something I’ve got to manage going forward is that when I go back out on the field, obviously I don’t have the amount of work that the rest of the boys have in my body, and I’ve got to prepare really well to prevent these things from happening. “At the end of the day, I am at a bit of a higher risk of injury, and I am aware of that. There’s no little fix or something I can do in the next two weeks to bulletproof my body. “I’ve got to prepare the best I can and just have faith in the medical staff and hope my body holds up.”
