Here’s a trivia question: Who was the first-ever person to receive an AFL premiership medal while wearing a West Coast Eagles jumper?

If you guessed Brett Heady, who wore No.1 in the Eagles’ inaugural flag in 1992...

...you’re surprisingly wrong.

It’s actually WA footy trailblazer Ben Allan, who donned the blue and gold when accepting his 1991 medal with Hawthorn.

Allan tells the story behind the jumper swap with a good mate in this week’s Hard Ball Gets podcast, where he opens up about his career at the Hawks, coming home to be Fremantle’s first skipper, his memories as caretaker coach, and plenty more.
