West Australian Maddison Inglis is hoping she can recapture her barnstorming form from earlier this year when she makes her senior Wimbledon debut on Monday night.

Inglis was the breakout star of the Australian tennis summer when she shocked the world and made the third round of her home grand slam.

Since her defeat at the hands of Kaia Kanepi in Melbourne, the 24-year-old has struggled to replicate the form, failing to qualify for the French Open.

Inglis will take to a Wimbledon court for the first time in eight years, having last played as a junior, when she takes on Hungarian world no. 89 Dalma Galfi.

The two met earlier this year, with Galfi coming out on top of the world no.129 Inglis 4-6 6-3 6-3 in the Indian Wells qualifiers.

“I mean, I’ve never been past the second round in qualies of a Slam,” Inglis said.

“And I was, I think one or two (places) out of the main draw. So I was almost in automatically, and then qualies, everyone’s fighting so hard and it’s tough to win three matches in a row. So, I’m so, so happy.”

Inglis’ boyfriend Jason Kubler also qualified for the main draw and will take on 28th seed Dan Evans on Tuesday.

Unlike his girlfriend, Kubler qualified for the French Open and made it into the second round after beating American Denis Kudla in a three-set epic.

Inglis said she was inspired by his performance at Roland Garros.

“I was there for all the matches in Paris even though I lost early in qualifying and it was, yeah, I was struggling a little bit there,” she said.

“I was in a little bit of a slump. I’d lost about seven matches and to see him you know fighting so hard and getting through those close matches … I think it did give me a little bit of motivation going into the weeks after.”

Fellow West Australian Astra Sharma will also be in action when she takes on German Tatjana Maria in the opening round.

James Duckworth will be on centre court for his showdown against two-time Wimbledon champion and home favourite Andy Murray.

Duckworth has never beaten Murray, losing both of their two meetings with the last coming at the Brisbane International in 2019.

Thanasi Kokkinakis will also begin his campaign, taking on Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak.
