September has traditionally been Earlybird Europe month, as travellers focus on their plans and bookings for next year’s Northern Hemisphere summer.

And that old “booking pattern” is coming back.

Airlines have been putting out Earlybird Europe fares and we have an 18-page Europe 2026 Guide in our 40-page edition of Saturday Travel.

SHAKING THE SHOULDER

And not only thinking about Europe in September — but travelling to Europe in September is almost as popular as being there in August.

A Webjet spokesperson says: “Of all Europe flight bookings for 2026 made so far, 12 per cent are for September departures, just behind August at 13 per cent.” And they add: “Bookings for September travel are still coming in.”

+ But 46 per cent of all Europe flights booked are for the traditional peak, from June to August.

+ The spokesperson says: “May and September are shaking off their ‘shoulder season’ label, together making up nearly a quarter (24 per cent) of all European trips currently booked.”

+ September travellers are planning to stay an average of 24 days.
