Monadelphous the latest local contractor to get an early Rio Tinto Xmas present with $250m Brockman award

Monadelphous has won a construction contract at Rio Tinto’s Brockman Syncline 1 iron ore development in the Pilbara. The firm headquartered in Victoria Park will be responsible for fabrication, concreting, electrical, mechanical and piping works during the construction of a new primary crusher and overland conveyor, plus modifications to an existing plant. The contract, worth about $250 million, will commence immediately and is expected to be completed in 2027. “We are looking forward to building on our long-standing relationship with Rio Tinto on this significant contract, extending our reputation for the safe and successful delivery of large multidisciplinary construction projects,” Monadelphous managing director Zoran Bebic said. Shares in Monadelphous were up 2.5 per cent in early Monday trade to $27.05. Rio in March pulled the trigger on a $US1.8 billion ($2.7b) investment to develop Brockman Syncline 1, extending the life of its broader Brockman iron ore mining hub. The investment was part of Rio’s commitment in May to spend more than $20b over three years to replenish its dwindling Pilbara iron ore stocks with mine extensions and new developments. WA’s large mining service providers and construction companies have feasted on Rio’s cash splash in recent months. Most recently, on Friday Macmahon subsidiary Decmil secured a $81m contract for the mobile equipment maintenance workshop expansion project at the Brockman 4 mine.
