The current Australian of the Year Local Hero will circumnavigate the country as he urges those from diverse ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds to support an Indigenous voice to parliament.

Turbans 4 Australia founder Amar Singh will spend two months completing the journey, which he launched in Sydney on Tuesday.

Mr Singh says the voice is too big of an opportunity to miss out on and he wants all Australians, regardless of their backgrounds, to get on board.

"This is your country as well," he said.

"You all need to do your bit and step forward."

Mr Singh wants people to put politics to one side and ask how the voice can make life better for everyone.

"This is about equality, about fairness," he said.

"Because remember, it was the Indigenous community that came together at Uluru and asked for this.

"It wasn't a politician's dream, this was actually the ask of the community and we must follow that.

"If it makes our life better as a country and the life of Indigenous people better, I'm all for it."

Mr Singh will be joined for the first leg of the journey by Sydney's first Indigenous councillor, Yvonne Weldon, who will act as co-driver.

His journey can be followed and supported online, with those looking to host or connect Mr Singh urged to make contact.
