All across the city, bakeries and dessert specialists are pumping out creative takes on Easter treats, and we have hunted out some of the most indulgent creations to check out. Because if ever there was a time to lean into sugar, butter, and excess, this is it. Choc orange hot cross buns and Easter Egg Smash Mary Street Bakery, various locations Mary Street Bakery’s choc orange hot cross buns build on the classic recipe, folding in boiled orange and chocolate chips for a sweet, zesty twist. They’re available in-store until Easter Sunday for $2.80 each or $14.50 for a six-pack online. Also on offer is their Easter Egg Smash, available from March 30 to Easter Sunday. It features flaky, cross-laminated croissant pastry with a gooey chocolate pecan cookie centre, topped with a chocolate egg to smash. Priced at $9.70, it’s available in-store and via the website. Rabbit shortbread Mrs Rabbit Tearooms, Swan Valley Mrs Rabbit Tearooms celebrates everything whimsical and cottage-core all year-round, but Easter is the perfect excuse to book a high tea or walk in to enjoy the regular menu in their beautifully decorated (rabbit-themed) tearoom. I love the dainty little lavender or rose flavoured shortbread ($4.40 each) in the shape of a rabbit. Bonus cute points because they are served on adorable vintage plates and make for the perfect picture. They are open on Easter Saturday from 10am to 5pm, with last orders at 4pm. Or if you can’t make it for Easter, the rabbit theming is kind of their whole MO, and the rabbit shortbread is available all year. Dubai hot cross bun Crumbs Patisserie, Osborne Park and Subiaco Crumbs Patisserie is taking hot cross buns in a luxe direction this Easter. Their Dubai Hot Cross Bun ($7.50 each) swaps tradition for indulgence — a rich chocolate bun stuffed with pistachio spread and crisp baked kataifi pastry, bringing a Middle Eastern-inspired twist to the classic. It’s a textural play of soft, gooey and crunchy, and a must-try for anyone chasing something a little extra this season. Kinder Bueno egg Cuccini Gelato, Northbridge, East Victoria Park and Karrinyup If you’re hunting for a show-stopping Easter treat, Cuccini Gelato’s Kinder Bueno egg ($15) is the way to go. This decadent handmade creation starts with a crushed hazelnut wafer filling, swirled with their signature Kinder Bueno gelato, then double-coated in luscious layers of white and dark chocolate. Every bite delivers a satisfyingly crunchy, creamy contrast, finished with crispy feuilletine for that extra textural magic. Perfect for chocolate lovers and gelato aficionados alike, it’s available at all three locations until Easter Monday (unless sold out prior). Hot X Scrolls Side Piece Deli, Swanbourne This Swanbourne cafe is serving up Hot X Scrolls, a cheeky combination we never knew we needed. Think hot cross bun flavours in a buttery brioche cinnamon scroll-like body. There are two flavours: traditional fruit and rich dark chocolate. You can pre-order six-packs on the Side Piece Deli website for $30 or try individual scrolls in-store until April 6 for $6.50 a pop.
