Hopetoun man allegedly caught driving more than 100km/h over the speed limit, charged with reckless driving

A Hopetoun man has been charged with reckless driving after being caught allegedly driving more than 100km/h over the posted speed limit on Wednesday. The 25-year-old was driving along Hamersley Avenue in Hopetoun when officers in a patrol vehicle say they detected his white Tesla sedan travelling at speeds of more than 160km/h. The posted speed limit for the area is 60km/h. A photo posted by Ravensthorpe police on Facebook indicates the man was travelling at about 168km/h when he was clocked about 12.10pm. Police stopped the driver a short time later and arrested him. They impounded his vehicle for 28 days and charged him with reckless driving. He is set to appear before the Albany Magistrates Court at a later date. In the same post, Ravensthorpe police urged drivers to avoid unsafe behaviour on the road. “WA Police are targeting unsafe driving behaviours in regional areas with zero tolerance to prevent the heart-breaking loss of lives and serious injuries that occur on Western Australian roads,” the post read. “Most crashes come down to choices within our control and those breaking the rules can expect to be hit with the full force of the law. “Drivers are urged to avoid the fatal five — drink or drug driving, inattention, speeding, failing to wear seatbelts, and fatigue.”
