‘One of the most decent men I’ve ever met’: Jon Price, vice-president of Albany Historical Society dies at 88

Jon Price, vice-president of the Albany Historical Society, has died at the age of 88. Mr Price, a retired Ongerup farmer, had been involved with the society for two decades and spent 15 years on the committee, the last dozen as vice-president. Historical society CEO Andrew Eyden said Mr Price’s death had come as a shock. “He was one of the most decent men I’ve ever met, and his passing has surprised us all,” he said. “He was a beautiful man who would do anything for anyone.” A tribute placed by the Historical Society in the Advertiser classifieds paints a glowing picture of Mr Price. “It is with great sadness that the Albany Historical Society learned of the passing of our vice-president Jon Price,” it said. “All of us who knew him were privileged to have known a truly caring, decent and genuine man. “We will miss you terribly Jon. We cherish the memories you have given us. We know you rest in peace with your beloved Dot.” Mr Price’s wife Dot died in August last year. She had been suffering from dementia and had been nursed at home by her husband. An Albany city councillor from 2013-17, she spent 33 years in education as a teacher. Funeral details were not available at the time of going to press.
