Dudley Park: Alleged firebug charged after setting fire to stack of tyres, causing about $200,000 in damage

A 55-year-old man has been charged with setting fire to a stack of tyres, charring nearby power poles and causing about $200,000 in damage. Police said that the man set fire to a bale of recycled truck tyres, which were secured on a Hino T-tio truck parked on Boundary Road in Dudley Park, about 1.50am on Monday. The blaze destroyed the truck and tyres. “As the tyres burnt they rolled onto the street, leaving it completely blocked by burnt rubber and wire from the tyres,” a police spokesperson said. “Nearby power lines and power poles were also damaged by the fire, causing a power outage.” The man, from Coodanup, was charged with criminal damage by fire and will front Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
