Two people have been killed and several injured when a car ran into a crowd in the centre of the eastern German city of Leipzig, local broadcaster MDR reports, citing police.
Leipzig police confirmed to Reuters that there were injuries from a driving car but could not give more details.
A damaged Volkswagen SUV with a person on top of the vehicle was seen speeding through a pedestrian zone, local broadcaster Radio Leipzig reported.
The broadcaster cited eyewitnesses as saying there were several bodies reportedly covered with sheets as well as a stabbing.

Sign upA statement posted on the Leipzig city website said the car and its driver had been stopped and no longer posed any danger.
The incident happened in the Grimmaische Strasse, a street that leads into central Leipzig's shopping area.
Leipzig is located southwest of Berlin and has more than 630,000 inhabitants, making it one of the biggest cities in eastern Germany.
