Fremantle’s historic 14-game winning streak has come to an end after the GWS Giants ran over the top of the Dockers to seal a 21-point win at Corroboree Group Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The defeat marked Fremantle’s first defeat since round one, with the Giants’ Jake Stringer slotting a career-high seven goals to stage the 16.13 (109) to 13.10 (88) upset.

Geraldton’s Judd McVee finished on 10 disposals and two tackles in what was a difficult day on the park for the Dockers.

Also on Saturday, Carlton only just held on to claim their seventh consecutive win under interim coach Josh Fraser, surviving a late scare from Richmond to secure a two-point victory.

A late surge from the Tigers saw the Blues lead on shaky ground, but they locked the contest down, forcing several stoppages to hold on 10.14 (74) to 10.12 (72).

Northampton product Patrick Cripps was named among Carlton’s best with 25 disposals, four marks, six clearances and a goal on Saturday afternoon at the MCG.

In Friday night’s clash against the reigning premiers, Geraldton’s Jack Martin had two goals and 10 disposals, but that wasn’t enough as Brisbane came away with a 19.9 (123) to 14.17 (101) win.

The 22-point loss saw Geelong slip out of the top six and into the wildcard zone, currently occupying seventh spot.

Ex-Rover Liam Ryan hit the scoreboard twice in St Kilda’s 17.15 (117) to 7.8 (50) victory over Essendon at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

To go with his two goals, Ryan also snagged seven disposals and four marks.

Teammate and fellow Geraldton product Jack Carroll had 24 disposals, four marks and three tackles in St Kilda’s 13.13 (91) to 18.8 (116) loss against Essendon in the VFL.

Also in the VFL, Jed Hagan was best on ground with three goals, 22 disposals and 10 tackles in Tasmania’s 10.11 (71) to 11.10 (76) defeat to Hawthorn.

Coorow-Latham’s Logan McDonald missed Sydney’s Friday night clash against the Western Bulldogs with a quad injury, while Dongara’s Jaeger O’Meara did not play after travelling to Canberra as an emergency.
