In the lead up to next month’s State Budget, the State Government has reaffirmed its funding commitments to two Geraldton schools.
WA Treasurer Rita Saffioti previously visited Geraldton in February 2025 to commit funding to Champion Bay Senior High School’s new sports centre and upgrades to Geraldton SHS’s classrooms and buildings.
On Monday, Premier Roger Cook announced the construction would be included in next month’s State Budget.
Champion Bay SHS will receive $21.4 million for their new sports hall and refurbishments to its existing sports hall, while Geraldton SHS works will be allocated $7.1m.
The planning funds for the two projects were included in last year’s State Budget.
Premier Roger Cook on Monday announced the State Government would invest $754m in the Budget into new schools, infrastructure upgrades and maintenance.
“Our Budget is delivering a strong investment in education for all young Western Australians regardless of where they live,” he said.
Geraldton MLA Kirrilee Warr criticised the announcement, as the projects were already confirmed in February last year.
“The Cook Labor Government has a track record of making statements on projects they’ve already announced as if to make it new again,” she said.
“Funding had already been promised for Champion Bay SHS and Geraldton SHS, so what in the funding is new for Geraldton?
“There are a number of schools within the electorate who have requested much-needed support, but we’ve heard nothing from the State Government on these issues.”
