Cottesloe Beach’s iconic diving pylon off-limits after inspection finds damage to base

Cottesloe Beach’s iconic diving pylon is currently off-limits, with structural damage putting the popular jumping spot temporarily out of action and possibly in need of replacement.
The Town is currently working on “the next steps” to fix the deteriorating pylon after a recent inspection of the pole found a large chunk of the base had seemingly split off and rusted over.
“The report identified that there were sections of the pylon in need of repair or replacement.
“The Town does ask that community members and visitors to Cottesloe beach do not attempt to climb the pylon for safety reasons.
The iconic pylon has been in place since 1936, located about about 80 metres offshore within the shark enclosure.

Despite years of wear and tear, the pylon has remained a beloved fixture of Cottesloe Beach — with community-funded repairs in 2019 helping to restore part of its platform.
It is regularly used by kids in the summer who can be seen scaling the base with the help of a rope before launching themselves into the water below.
