A motorbike rider has been killed after colliding with a car on a major Perth freeway.

The motorbike rider, aged in his 30s, collided with a Mitsubishi Triton utility heading in the same direction on Kwinana Freeway near Berrigan Drive about 2pm.

The rider — who was travelling on a black Triumph motorcycle — sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

Traffic on the freeway came to a standstill as Kwinana Freeway heading south between South Street and Beeliar Drive was closed to the public.

It has since re-opened, however traffic is reduced to a single lane.

“Traffic congestion is heavy in the area and along the southbound lanes of the freeway up until the Narrows Bridge,” a police spokeswoman said.

“Motorists are urged to seek an alternative route.”

A St John spokeswoman confirmed ambulance crews were at the scene.

It comes after a 47-year-old man was killed in a motorbike crash in Como on Thursday morning.

The fatal incident happened just before 9am when the man’s black Honda motorcycle was travelling north on Canning Highway.

Police say he collided with a black and grey Nissan Navara utility at the intersection of Preston Street.

The motorbike rider — a 47-year-old man — died at the scene.
