Woman spent afternoon dining at Westfield before drink-driving seven times the legal limit outside daycare

A woman who admitted to drink-driving outside a Sydney childcare centre had spent the afternoon drinking at an RSL and dining at Westfield, court documents reveal. Amber Conti, 43, has pleaded guilty to one count of high-range drink-driving after she blew seven times the legal limit following her arrest at a childcare centre in Gymea in southern Sydney. She was caught on CCTV entering the childcare centre carpark about 4.30pm on October 20, with police and paramedics called over concerns for her welfare about an hour later. Court documents, seen by NewsWire, reveal Conti needed help to walk and smelled of alcohol. She admitted to having two glasses of white wine at the Cronulla RSL, followed by another glass of wine at a restaurant at Westfield Miranda, when questioned by police. She told the officers her first drink was at 12pm and her last was at 2pm, adding she had a bite to eat while at the Westfield restaurant. “The accused consumed chicken skewers, rice and a stir fry while drinking at the unnamed restaurant,” the documents state. “Police formed the opinion that the accused was seriously affected by intoxicating liquor. She smelt of intoxicating liquor, her speech incoherent and required assistance to walk,” the documents state. Conti returned a breath test of 0.359 while at the police station. Drivers must return a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of lower than 0.05 in Australia. Her licence was suspended and she was granted conditional bail. She will be sentenced on December 18.
