A group of teenagers have been arrested after allegedly stabbing a 14-year-old schoolboy in broad daylight.

Police were called to the shocking scene on Saturday on Charlemont Road in Newham, East London, where the severely injured boy lay bleeding in front of distressed members of the public.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

Police arrested five teenage boys between the ages of 14 and 17 on suspicion of attempted murder, the Daily Mail reported.

One boy has since been released on bail, while the other four remain in custody for questioning.

Following the attack, the Metropolitan Police have launched an urgent appeal for information to assist in the ongoing investigation.

They say there is currently no “obvious” motive for the attack.

Detective Inspector Joshua Palmer said it was a “horrific attack” that was “witnessed by numerous members of the public”.

“We are urgently trying to gather as much information as possible,” he said.

“If you were near Charlemont Road on the day of the incident, please check your phone for any footage you may have.”

It is unclear whether any of the boys have been charged in relation to the attack.

This comes amidst serious concerns over youth knife crime in the UK.

After a brutal attack at a Taylor Swift-themed children’s event in Southport on July 29, 2024, which killed three people and injured ten more, knife crime became an issue of national importance.

The UK’s Office of National Statistics recorded that in the 2024-2025 period of data collection, police recorded a total of 53,047 knife and sharp object-related offences.

This represents an 81 per cent increase in such offences in England and Wales over the past 10 years, according to the Ben Kinsella Trust.

Over the past year, however, there has been a 1 per cent decrease in recorded offences.

Four people were victims of a brutal stabbing attack in London yesterday.

A 58-year-old man died at the scene of the incident at a business address in Southwark.

A 27-year-old man later died of his injuries at the hospital. Another man was hospitalised but is expected to survive.

A man was arrested in connection to the attack, but was in a life-threatening condition and was hospitalised.
