Is this the luckiest fan in Perth?

Lyla Menadue, 16, was fought off tears after hometown hero Sam Kerr handed her jersey to the teen after the 8-0 victory over the Philippines.

Her friends, also avid young soccer players, crowded around her as they handed it around.

“It’s feels so unreal, I’m still in shock and I’m still shaking, I can’t believe it,” Lyla told The West Australian.

“I think she saw my sign, she pointed at it, I hope she liked it.

Describing the moment Kerr came to the teen and gave her the jersey, Ms Menadue said it was “so surreal”.

“She just said ‘I’m going to give you my jersey’ and I was just screaming the whole time,” she said. “I almost fell over the fence.

“I feel pretty special, she just came out and pointed at me.

“We originally didn’t have tickets, until they released more, and we ended up with close ones, it was just meant to be.”

PLAYER RATINGS

Sam says...

Sam Kerr doesn’t want you to think today’s win came easy. She says Australia “worked their butts off” for the 8-0 triumph.

“Everything just fell into place for the team,” she says.

“But I mean, we’ve been training at this all week. And like I said, the first time we had a few things to work on, but no, I think everyone just came out here and gave 100%

“Yeah, I think it’s massive. Obviously it makes who we face in the next round if we qualify, but look, we’re not worried about that right now. We’re just worried about that we got three points.”
