Jeremy McGovern retirement: Harley Reid pays tribute to teammate forced into medical retirement

West Coast young gun Harley Reid has posted a stirring tribute to teammate Jeremy McGovern after the Eagles champion was forced to medically retire from football.
Reid was front and centre as an emotional McGovern addressed his retirement at a press conference at the club’s Lathlain headquarters on Friday.
He later posted to his Instagram stories a series of photos of with McGovern.
“Congratulations on an unreal career,” Reid posted.
“It’s been an absolute privilege to play alongside you. You’re not only a bloody good footballer, but one of the best blokes I’ve ever met.
“Gonna miss u.”
Reid is the latest in a string of current and former Eagles teammate to pay tribute to McGovern, who played 197 games for the club and won its best-and-fairest award last season.
McGovern played 25 games for the Eagles, including six this year, since Reid joined the club as the No.1 pick before last season.
Other players, including Tyler Brockman, Elliot Yeo and Archer Reid shared the Eagles’ official Instagram post recognising McGovern’s retirement to their own accounts.
