Everything to look forward to at Telethon Family Festival and All Abilities Precinct

There is lots to do at today’s Telethon Family Festival including fitness challenges and inclusive sports.

After a successful first year at its new home in the heart of the CBD, the free festival will branch out from the live fundraising spectacular at RAC Arena, stretching along Wellington Street, Telethon Avenue, Forrest Place and Yagan Square.

The event from 10am to 4 pm, will have a range of food trucks, carnival rides, community performances, roving entertainment, and more.

For the first time at the festival, you can experience the thrill of inclusive sports with wheelchair basketball and football — showcased by Rebound WA and WA All Abilities Football Association, and Starkick and Swan Districts Football Club.

The All Abilities Precinct will be on the court next to RAC Arena with wheelchair basketball and football demonstrations and festival attendees are encouraged to participate.

Harrison Carthew is not only a Little Telethon Star but also a star of wheelchair basketball through the help of Rebound WA.

You can even see a game where All-Star players, led by Ex-Wildcats captain Shawn Redhage, will be pitted against the kids. But if you can’t see it in person it will all be broadcast live, free, and on demand on Streamer.

Streamer will also broadcast the challenges inside RAC Arena, where brave volunteers will challenge their endurance on treadmills and with hula hoops to raise money for Telethon.

Rebound WA spokeswoman Stephanie Hydal said the team were thrilled to be a part of the iconic Telethon Family Festival.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Telethon’s good work impacting many Western Australians including their generous support for our programs connecting children with physical disability to sport,” she said.

“We look forward to sharing the fun of wheelchair basketball with everyone at the festival through demos and come and try sessions.”

Everyone’s favourite carnival rides will also return free of charge in the Lotterywest Kids Carnival. Families can also find two showbag stalls and four sideshow games.

A family-friendly hub in Forrest Place will include an ice rink for all ages, plus jumbo inflatables.

With free public transport today there is no reason to bring the car with trains and buses taking you directly to Telethon and the festival.
