Traffic around Optus Stadium is intensifying as spectators rush to watch the western derby, which is scheduled to start at 3.10pm.

Main Roads issued an alert to drivers heading to the game at 2.38pm, warning motorists about traffic delays as Fremantle and West Coast prepare to do battle in this afternoon’s game.

“Graham Farmer Freeway, Northbridge Tunnel and Victoria Park Drive are very busy,” a statement from Main Roads WA said.

“Please be aware of extra foot traffic in the area.

“Tow away zones (are) in place – check signs before parking within the area.”

Fans heading to the stadium via ride share will be dropped off on Sailani Avenue in East Perth.

More to come.
