The UFC is returning to Perth for the second time in 18 months, with the world’s biggest mixed martial arts promotion announcing a card will take place at RAC Arena later this year.

UFC 305 will be held in Perth on Sunday August 18 in what is set to be the biggest card ever held in Australia and the only one down under in 2024.

It is part of a multi-year deal between the UFC and the WA Government.

“Perth, I am so excited to be coming back!” UFC chief executive Dana White said.

Perth fighters Jack Della Maddalena and Steve Erceg will be aiming to be on the card after impressive, undefeated starts to their UFC careers.

Erceg (12-1) could be defending the flyweight title, with the West Australian to take on champion Alexandre Pantoja (27-5) at UFC301 in Rio de Janeiro on May 5.

Meanwhile, Della Maddalena (17-2) is fresh off surgery for a broken arm he sustained in his impressive TKO victory over fellow welterweight title contender Gilbert Burns last month.

The last time the UFC was in town a packed out RAC Arena witnessed Della Maddalena defeat Randy Brown in a second round submission.

Della Maddalena is confident he will be fit to fight at the pay-per-view, having called out undefeated welterweight Shavkat Rakhmonov.

Former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski was in the headline bout, losing to Islam Makhachev by unanimous decision for the lightweight title.

Volkanovski, Della Maddalena and Erceg were all on hand at the announcement at Della Maddalena’s home base of Scrappy MMA.

The former champion is set to miss the event and is aiming to fight later this year, where he hopes to recapture the title from Ilia Topuria.

There are rumours the card will include a massive middleweight title fight between former champion and Australian Israel Adesanya and current champion Dricus Du Plessis..

Robert Whittaker, who has missed the past two Perth events despite being scheduled to fight, will not be on the card having been announced to take on Khamzat Chimaev in the main event of the first-ever card in Saudi Arabia.

The UFC is set to announce fights for the card at a later date.
