“Local” was the unofficial theme of this year’s McIntosh & Son Mingenew Midwest Expo fashion parade, with stunning designs on show.

Ladies from Mingenew and surrounds donned outfits, jewellery and head wear created by local designers, on the Bendigo Bank main stage.

A handful of the models were transformed into “wildflower women” with face paint and head ware paying homage to the beautiful wildflower season under way in the Mid West.

The event did more than just showcase the latest styles, raising money for Mingenew Playgroup through volunteer hours.

Fashion parade organising committee member Carine McTaggart said a bumper crowd turned out to see the local models strut their stuff on the stage.

“Our aim was to bring many components of fashion together to promote Mid West creative talent in one showcase,” she said.

“The official theme was Element — the building blocks of homegrown fashion.” Ms McTaggart said it was really rewarding to see the expo committee’s ideas “come together on stage”.

“The biggest positive for us was being able to showcase local Mid West creative talent,” she said.

“We’re really pleased that we were able to offer a variety of styles from active wear, through to casual essentials and then into the detailed creation of race wear and bridal designs.

“Having local jewellery and headwear accessories to exhibit was an added bonus and completed the vision we started with.

“We really appreciate all the work from everyone involved and thank viewers for the positive feedback we have received.”

The expo started using local models instead of agency talent about six years ago, drawing praise from residents.

“We hope that it gives our local ladies the chance to experience something different whilst also promoting their confidence,” Ms McTaggart said.
